Kansas City Bathroom Remodeling has done some pretty amazing bathroom renovations in Olathe, but one of our favorite concepts is an indoor-outdoor bathroom!
Commonly found in coastal climates for functional reasons, an indoor-outdoor bathroom has many advantages. We’ll talk about those in just a moment, but first, let’s define what an indoor-outdoor bathroom actually is.
It’s a bathroom where all the fixtures or at least one of them, usually the shower, is located outside. An indoor-outdoor bathroom is a truly unique feature for an Olathe home. And don’t think that just because you live in a cooler temperature, you can’t enjoy one of your own. Homes in the cooler Northeast can have them as well!
Cold weather preparation for an outdoor shower or sink is the same as you would use for any outdoor plumbing. Pipes need to be winterized, and the fixtures can’t be used when temperatures dip to freezing – but honestly, who would want to take a shower in sub-freezing temperatures, anyway?
Reasons to Add an Outdoor Bathroom
Their appearance alone is enough to convince many of our customers, but the really practical ones need a little more information before making such a big change. If you need some convincing, here are Kansas City Bathroom Remodeling’s favorite benefits of an indoor-outdoor bathroom:
- Have a convenient place to clean up before coming inside
- Enjoy stunning views and beautiful weather most of the year
- Incorporates easily into the landscaping with materials such as wood or stone floors
- Especially private if you live in a wooded area or if the bathroom is on a second floor
We can definitely understand if you’re not gung-ho on the idea of a shower or toilet outdoors… if you’d rather not go all-out, here are a few compromises that you can choose that will give you the look and feel of an outdoor bathroom with less of the hassle.
An outdoor shower with an indoor half bath
This little feature is a surprising touch, even in a mostly conventional bathroom. You can use the same flooring for the inside and outside portions of your bathroom for continuity.
Frosted glass to the outside
One solid wall of frosted glass panels will give you the same effect, but it would make your bathroom usable throughout the winter.
Shower inside, tub outside
Take a cue from luxury resorts! Put the practical shower inside since you’re most likely going to be using it every day, then put a relaxing spa retreat, complete with a stand-alone tub, right outside.
Totally indoor, but with a balcony
Yet another great idea is to put French doors or sliding glass doors on an outer wall so you can open them up to a small balcony right outside your bathroom.
Kansas City Bathroom Remodeling can give you any style bathroom you want, including an unconventional indoor-outdoor Olathe bathroom!
