Once you’ve had Kansas City Bathroom Remodeling design and build the bathroom you’ve always wanted, it’s time to take good care of it with regular deep cleaning!
Of course we recommend that you follow tried and true cleaning patterns. For example, clean top to bottom and in one direction, like left to right or back to front, depending on how your bathroom is laid out. For the bathroom, it’s a good idea to begin by spraying the toilet and shower or tub with the cleaning product of your choice to let it sit for a while before you begin scrubbing.
As for the individual appliances, here are a few of our best cleaning tips:
Shower
When cleaning the shower, work smarter, not harder! Let the showerhead soak overnight in a bag of white vinegar.
Use either an all-purpose cleaner or a paste made of vinegar and baking soda on the walls and door, let the cleaner sit, then turn the shower on hot for a few minutes (allowing the steam to activate the cleaners). After about 20 minutes, wipe the cleaner away and rinse if necessary.
Toilet
A variety of products can be used to clean the toilet. What’s important to remember is that cleaning the toilet bowl daily is the best way to prevent rings and stains. You can use ½ a cup of bleach, a scoop of borax powder, or 2 cups of white vinegar – all of which you probably already have – to clean the bowl often.
It’s also important to clean the brush once you’re finished cleaning the toilet by pouring bleach over it and letting it sit over the toilet bowl.
Tile
Invest in a grout brush to reach the deepest pores of your grout and tile. Clean these surfaces with bleach to prevent mold and mildew growth.
To protect tile from mold and mildew (thereby eliminating a lot of bathroom odors as well), reseal the grout every 6 months or so. You should also have your grout steam cleaned from time to time by a professional.
Sink, countertops, and mirrors
These areas get cleaned all at once, but that doesn’t mean the same methods or products will work.
Sinks and countertops should be cleaned with an all-purpose cleaner or bleach. Scrubbing isn’t necessary, so you can use a soft, absorbent cloth.
A trick that we’ve learned is to dust mirrors before cleaning them with a microfiber cloth to reduce streaks. When finished, buff shaving foam onto the glass with a clean cloth to prevent them from fogging up in the future.
Fixtures
Disinfecting wipes are best, for cleaning fixtures because they are easy to use anytime on fixtures that are touched multiple times a day.
Polishing fixtures with a damp dryer sheet will prevent future water spots.
